Concert Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Oak Park Arms
An afternoon concert will pay tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave.
Most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation and efforts for racial equality, Martin Luther King, Jr. was an influential American civil rights leader.
As an advocate for non-violent protests and his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, he became the youngest man to be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.
Shortly after his assassination in 1968, a campaign was started to turn his birthday into a holiday in his honor. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was first observed in 1986, but it wasn’t acknowledged by all states until the year 2000.
The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information call Jill Wagner at 708-386-4040.
